RE: Trump calls shutdown meeting ‘productive’ while Democrats say he threatened to keep the government closed ‘for years’
President Donald Trump said Friday he would keep the government shut down for months or even a year or longer if needed to get his way on border security and said he has considered declaring a national emergency to try to secure funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Yes, I have. And I can do it,” Trump said in the White House Rose Garden, answering a question from ABC News’ Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran. He added he could do so “for the national security of our country.”
