Morning Spin: Ex-state rep who resigned after former girlfriend’s claims drops off fall ballot

Former state Rep. Nick Sauer formally withdrew his name from the November ballot on Tuesday, nearly one week after resigning from office amid allegations he posted nude photos of an ex-girlfriend online.

A Republican from Lake Barrington, Sauer was seeking a second term in office. Now, it’ll be up to local Republican officials to pick his replacement in the Illinois House and on the ballot — namely Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw, who controls nearly all of the weighted vote.
