Morning Spin: Illinois Republicans disown GOP congressional candidate over conspiracy theories

The state Republican Party, which has disavowed the GOP candidate challenging Southwest Side Democratic U.S. Rep. Daniel Lipinski over neo-Nazi views, is doing the same with Northwestern Illinois congressional candidate Bill Fawell over his conspiracy views.

Fawell is challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos of Moline. The left-leaning Media Matters produced a report showing Fawell has used social media to push several false conspiracy theories, including ones about mass shootings, 9/11 and that children were being trafficked for sex through a Washington, D.C. pizza parlor.
