Top Georgetown prof hits Obama, ‘little practical use’ to blacks

He’s described as the “widely celebrated” Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson, one of the nation’s 100 most influential African Americans, and he’s been making news on a new book tour by bashing President Trump.

But as former President Obama readies a midterm push for Democrats, critics are starting to highlight Dyson’s little-noted assault on the nation’s first black president in his latest book, What Truth Sounds Like: RFK, James Baldwin, And Our Unfinished Conversation About Race In America.

Dyson calls Obama an afterthought in the race conversation until the end of his eight years. “Obama was, until his time in office was almost up, of little practical use to black folk,” he wrote.

Dyson even suggested that Obama didn’t want to jeopardize his work with whites by focusing on race.
